C.R.E.A.M. - El Mac and Retna

In 2005, I opened C.R.E.A.M cafe in San Diego.

Originally I considered calling it “Mad Society Kafe” (MSK being the initials of my affiliate graffiti crew) but liked the acronym for “Coffee Rules Everything Around Me” and of course the @wutangclan reference...👊🏽

I also owned a clothing shop in the same building called #neighbourhoodboutique with @warriorpunknyc . More on that later...

When it came to my new cafe, one of the first things I did was call @retna and @mac_arte to come paint a few murals. I can’t speak of what has been painted since, but these were the first Retna & Mac murals in San Diego.

I wish I spent more time with them while they were there for the two days painting those pieces, but it was during a time that I was wrestling with some addictions common to the restaurant world. 🗝🏁🗝🏁🗝🏁

This piece was painted over when I sold the business ~2011, but the mural on the back wall remains, fading as the years pass on.

We had some epic events at that location and there are some great stories to be told. In my mind however, nothing was more important than validating the work of my crew with the walls I had available! Go team! I remember they were either painting or consumed by their blackberries. Times were changin’ and social media was finding its footing, altering the course of both graffiti and the way we all interact forever.
